Junior Megan Gardner threw down 11 kills and senior Sabrina Boermeester added nine as the Nichols College women's volleyball team won its first home match of the season, a 3-0 sweep of Newbury College in non-conference action Wednesday night at the Nichols Athletic Center.
 
Freshman Jayleen Fegan chipped in with a career-high 13 digs as the Bison evened their home record at 1-1 and their season record at 2-2. The captured game one 27-25, game two 25-12, and game three 25-16.
 
The Bison trailed by five points (12-7) in the first game before rallying to win behind four kills each from Boermeester and Gardner. NC then posted a solid .286 hitting pct. in their game two win as freshman Rachael Veilleux dished out 10 assists – six of which went to Gardner and Boermeester. Then, down 4-0 early in the third, the Bison ripped off 13 of the next 19 points to move in front and secure the win.
 
Three things you need to know...
-The Bison recorded 12 service aces, led by Veilleux with six and Fegan with four.
-Sophomore Monica Bolduk paced Newbury with eight kills while freshman Amanda Payne collected 16 digs.
-Nichols recorded a season-high 55 digs – including 11 from sophomore Samantha Callejo and eight from senior Zoe Chevrette.
