Women's Volleyball Splits with Worcester State and Eastern Nazarene

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 7, 2017 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday with Worcester State and Eastern Nazarene at the Hogan Sports Center.

Colby-Sawyer (8-13) fell to Worcester State 3-0, but then defeated Eastern Nazarene 3-0. The Chargers will resume a lengthy homestand on Wednesday with a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest against New England College.  

Worcester State won both of its matches to improve to 14-6. The Lancers opened the day with a 3-0 win over Colby-Sawyer and followed with a 3-1 win over Eastern Nazarene. The Lancers will host Salem State on Tuesday night for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) contest.

Eastern Nazarene dropped both of its matches to fall to 9-13. The Lions travel to the University of New England on Tuesday to resume Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

WORCESTER STATE 3, COLBY-SAWYER 0 – 25-17, 25-20, 25-18
Worcester State was led by Amari King's (Lawrence, Mass.) 18 kills as she was the only player to reach double digit kills. She hit .375 and added 10 digs. Stephanie Chapin (Hampden, Mass.) hit an impressive .538 and finished with seven kills, two blocks and five digs. Megan Leavens (Storrs, Conn.) chipped in a match best 16 digs, while Allie Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) contributed 31 assists and five kills.

Colby-Sawyer received nine kills from sophomore Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.) and senior Alli Lahiff (Haverhill, Mass.). Junior Courtney Murray (Quincy, Mass.) added eight kills and eight digs. Sophomore setter Olivia Goodrich (Epping, N.H.) recorded 28 assists. Junior Nicole Olivieri (Salem, N.H.) and sophomore Morgan Flynn (Reading, Mass.) had 13 digs apiece.

WORCESTER STATE 3, EASTERN NAZARENE 1 – 25-16, 22-25, 25-19, 25-10
The Lancers were once again led by King. She piled up 23 kills and 18 digs in the match. Junior Emily Carens (Northborough, Mass.) posted 11 kills. Leavens collected a match best 29 digs, while Nolan ran the offense with 46 assists.

Eastern Nazarene was led by nine kills from sophomore Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.). She added a team best 15 digs along with senior Oksana DiCamillo (Eighty-Four, Pa.). Senior setter Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) tallied a double-double of 30 assists and 13 digs.

COLBY-SAWYER 3, EASTERN NAZARENE 0 – 25-13, 25-23, 25-13
Colby-Sawyer was led by Cox who had 12 kills on .435 hitting. Murray and Lahiff recorded seven kills apiece. Flynn registered 12 digs, while Goodrich finished with 24 assists.

The Lions were led by Courtney McCarthy's nine kills. Dean added another double-double with 11 assists and 10 digs.
