Volleyball Downed by Emerson

BOSTON, MA: The Rivier women's volleyball team ended their seven-game winning streak this evening after suffering a loss to non-conference opponent Emerson College.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/20/22

- Score: Emerson 3, Rivier 0: Sets (21-25, 8-25, 14-25)

- Records: Emerson (8-1), Rivier (7-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders offense struggled to get anything going after the first set. Although falling in set one, Riv outpaced the Lions in kills 15-12. After that, the Raiders could only put together four kills in the second and third sets. Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, CT) led the offense with seven kills. Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, NY) had 18 assists, with Sofia Pawlusik (Burnt Hills, NY) finishing with a team-high 16 digs.

- Emerson also didn't produce high offensive numbers but won each set by committing fewer errors. The Lions only had 18 errors to Rivier's 40. Parker Cummings led the Lion attack with eight kills. Caroline Bond dished out 17 assists and 14 digs. Defensively Caroline Davis had a match-high 20 digs.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: Emerson 30, Rivier 23

-  Assists: Emerson 27, Rivier 21

-  Digs: Emerson 49, Rivier 40

- Rivier women's volleyball will be back in action Thursday when they travel to Southern Maine for another non-conference matchup at 7:00 PM.
