Women’s Volleyball Swept by Western New England

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College was defeated in three straight sets by the Western New England Golden Bears Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's volleyball action at Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium.

With the loss, Curry drops to 4-17 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.

Bright spots in the first set included a pair of four-point runs, the second of which was capped off with back-to-back kills by Jess Sullivan (Meredith, N.H.) and Sonja Matheson (Voluntown, Conn.) to tie the score at 16-16.

After going down by five to start the second set, the Colonels battled to keep the score close, going on a 6-1 scoring run highlighted by a service ace and kill by Leah Oscar-Phoenix (Westwood, Mass.).

Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.) led the Colonels with five kills and eight digs. Sydney DeCarvalho (Hope, R.I.) also had eight kills while Emma St. Cyr (Dover, N.H.) finished with a team-high 10 assists.

Curry College returns to action on Saturday (10/21) to host Nichols in the 2023 Dig Pink match beginning at 11 a.m.
