Epic Comebacks Lead to Tourney Title

The Colorado College volleyball team claimed the 2019 Spike It Up Classic championship by posting a pair of victories on Saturday at Reid Arena.
 
The 10th-ranked Tigers defeated Willamette University 25-21, 25-19, 25-17 in their first match of the day, then completed the tournament with epic comebacks in the first and second sets that led to a 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19 victory over MIT.

CC, which has won six straight matches, improved to 7-1.
 
Senior outside hitter Jordan Mullen led Colorado College with 15 kills against the Engineers, while tournament MVP Isabella Vasquez added 11.
 
Middle blockers Georgia Mullins and Emma Hewlin combined for 18 kills and seven blocked shots, and both earned a spot on the all-tournament team in a vote of the opposing coaches.

Colorado College rallied from a 17-9 deficit in the first set and an 18-12 hole in the second.

Colorado College Standouts
Georgia Mullins put down an error-free 14 kills on 25 against Willamette.
Isabella Vasquez hit .526 with 12 kills on 19 swings with versus the Bearcats.

MIT Standouts
Alexis Groark recorded a match-high 18 kills for the Engineers.
Andie Maloney dished out 39 assists and had eight digs.
 
In the win over Willamette, Mullins led Colorado College with career-high 14 kills, while Vasquez added 12.

CC trailed 20-17 in the first set, but the Tigers rallied with an 8-1 run that included a pair of kills from Mullen, a kill from Mullins and a combined block from the two.

The Colorado College attack caught fire in the second set, hitting .400 with 15 kills on 30 attacks, and then the defense dominated the third set and held the Bearcats to a -.028 team hitting percentage.

Mullins had a hand in four blocked shots, while Haley Harris finished with a team-high nine digs.

Colorado College Standouts
Mullins put down 14 kills without an error on 25 attacks for a .560 attack percentage against Willamette.
Vasquez hit .526 with 12 kills on 19 swings with versus the Bearcats.

Willamette Standouts
Natalie Klotz led the Bearcats with nine kills.
Jennifer Lane had eight kills and hit a team-best .333.
