Owls Down Wildcats in Straight Sets

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – The Westfield State University women's volleyball team defeated Bay Path University in three straight sets on Wednesday night at the Woodward center in Westfield, Mass.

Both teams traded points early on in the first set, but the Owls took the momentum from the end of the first set and rolled the rest of the way.

Senior Brianna Starkey (Rockland, Mass.) led the way for Westfield, gathering 9 kills and 4 aces, while senior Lizzie Taylor (Medfield, Mass.) had 16 digs. Freshman Kayla Robinson (Danvers, Mass.) also contributed 26 assists and 2 aces to the winning effort.

Former NECC all-conference member Marissa Courchesne (Belchertown, Mass.) shined for Bay Path, collecting 9 kills, while Freshman Khyarah Gaston-Feliciano (Holyoke, Mass.) added 9 assists.

Westfield improves to 1-3 on the season, while the Wildcats drop to 0-3.

Up next for Bay Path is a matchup with Nichols College tomorrow night at home beginning at 8:00 p.m.

The Owls return to the court Friday, as they pack up and head to Trinity College for the Trinity Invitational at 5:00 p.m. Westfield will take on Clark University in the opening match.
