BRISTOL, R.I. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team opened its season with a 4-0
finish at the Roger Williams University Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Augsburg claimed a 3-1 victory over Trine University, a 3-0 victory over Alfred University,
a 3-1 victory over Roger Williams University
and 3-0 win over Montclair State.
THE BASICS - AUGSBURG VS. TRINE
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. Trine 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17)

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST TRINE
• Augsburg started off the season hitting .275, while holding the Thunder to just a .079 hitting percentage. The Auggie defense held a 66-49 advantage in digs and forced 29 attack errors by the Thunder in Friday's opening match.
• The Augsburg offense was led by
Sydnie Zachary (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS), who posted 13 kills, and
Megan Quam (JR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS), who had nine kills. Zachary added 16 digs, while Quam added three block assists.
• First-years
Jade Boysen (FY, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS), and
Kayla Gjerde (FY, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS), had strong starts to their Auggie careers, with eight and seven kills respectively. Boysen hit at a .400 clip, along with having three blocks (two solo).
Corrina Evans (SO, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS), had five kills and four blocks (one solo).

Morgan Malley (SR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS), was a dominant offensive force with 36 assists, three kills and two service aces, while adding six digs.

Macey Terhell (SR, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) started off the season strong, leading the team with 17 digs and adding three assists.
FOR THE FOES (TRINE)
• The Thunder were led by Madison Munger, who finished with a team-high 14 kills, 13 digs and a block assist.
• Lindsey DeCamp led the Thunder with 18 digs, while Raven Hood led the team with 21 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALFRED
• The Auggies came out strong against the Saxons and were able to cruise to a victory in straight sets on Friday. The Auggies out-hit the Saxons .333 to minus-.038, held a 27-15 advantage in assists and had 34 team digs.

Kayla Gjerde (FY, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) led Augsburg offensively with nine kills.
Corrina Evans (SO, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) and
Megan Quam (JR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had five kills each, and led the team in block assists with two and three respectively.
• While only playing in one set,
Morgan Malley (SR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) was able to tally 19 assists and three digs.

Jade Fullerton (FY, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) added four kills to the Auggie offense, while
Sydnie Zachary (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) had three kills and seven digs.
FOR THE FOES (ALFRED)
• Amber Smith led the Saxons with five kills and six digs, while Amanda Burns had 14 assists and five digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ROGER WILLIAMS
• Augsburg only dropped the second set to the Hawks, improving to 3-0 on the weekend. The Auggies had a 52-36 advantage in kills, 50-34 advantage in assists and had a hitting percentage of .210, while the Hawks hit .110. Augsburg also had 89 digs in Saturday's opener.
• The Auggie offense was led by both
Megan Quam (JR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) and
Kayla Gjerde (FY, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) posting double-digit kills. Both Quam and Gjerde helped out defensively with five and seven digs each.

Sydnie Zachary (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) and
Corrina Evans (SO, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) both had nine kills each, while Zachary had 17 digs and Evans had three digs and three block assists.
• Anchoring the Augsburg defense,
Macey Terhell (SR, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) led all players with 19 digs.
Jaelin Rios (JR, Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) had 18 digs.

Morgan Malley (SR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) posted 40 assists, while adding 13 digs and six kills.
FOR THE FOES (ROGER WILLIAMS)
• The Hawks were led by Katherine Pickard, who posted a team-best 9 kills, while adding 10 digs and an ace. Julia Fields had 31 assists and 10 digs.
• Defensively, Kate Grabowski had a match-high digs with 22.

FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. Montclair State 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-23)

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MONTCLAIR STATE
• Augsburg hit at a .228 percentage as it out-powered the Red Hawks in the final match of the tournament on Saturday.

Sydnie Zachary (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) was a stand-out for the Auggies, posting eight kills, 16 digs, two block assists and an assist.
• Hitting at a .412 clip,
Jade Fullerton (FY, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) had eight kills, and
Corrina Evans (SO, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) hit at a .333 percent with seven kills.

Morgan Malley (SR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) posted team-best assists with 35 and team-best hitting percent with .417. She also had five kills and eight digs.
• Rounding out the Auggie offense,
Kayla Gjerde (FY, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) had six kills and
Lexie Lang (FY, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had two kills.
FOR THE FOES (MONTCLAIR STATE)
• Carly Waterman led the Red Hawks with 11 kills, while also adding four digs. Natalia Majkut added five kills, three digs and four block assits.
• With 21 assists and 12 digs, Ashley Griffith had a strong showing for the Red Hawks.
