Volleyball Drops Season Opener to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA: The Rivier women's volleyball team fell this evening to non-conference opponent Springfield College to open their 2022 season.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/2/22

- Score: Springfield 3, Rivier 0: Set Scores (21-25, 24-26, 19-25)

- Records: Springfield (2-0), Rivier (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Although Springfield won all three sets, the Raiders kept each set close. Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, CT) topped Rivier both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Her 13 kills were good for a team high, along with her 17 digs. Sophomore Cadia Greene (N. Kingstown, RI) also put in double digit kills with 10. Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, NY) facilitated the offense dishing out 25 assists on the night.

- The difference in this match came down to Springfield's defense. Ally Townsend was on a different level as she racked up 28 digs to keep rallies going and giving her team ample opportunities to win the point. Megan Kirtyan found her teammates 28 times for kills, with 14 coming from Riley Donahue. Donahue was the only student-athlete for Springfield to end with double digit kills.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: Springfield 34, Rivier 30

-  Aces: Springfield: 11, Rivier 6

-  Digs: Rivier 56, Springfield 56

- Rivier will be back in action tomorrow at 10:30 am when they take on Skidmore in non-conference action.
