Saint Joseph's Falls to Schreiner & Whitman

HOUSTON – Saint Joseph's College (1-5) suffered a pair of losses in the First Responder's Tournament, hosted by the University of St. Thomas, on Friday. The Monks opened the tourney with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-20) at the hands of Schreiner University (3-2) and fell to Whitman College by the same 3-0 (25-6, 25-17, 25-9) margin.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Freshman Nadia Sixto (Chattanooga, Tenn.) posted four kills with a pair of block assists
  • Freshman Heather Darby (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added four kills and four digs
  • Sophomore Maggie Sylvester (Barrington, N.H.) tallied four kills and eight digs
  • Sophomore Hanna Webster (Alvin, Texas) chipped in with four kills and a block assist
  • Senior Hanna Holden (Stoughton, Mass.) dealt 10 assists with three service aces and five digs
  • Freshman Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) contributed 12 digs and two aces

LEADERS – SCHREINER:

  • Nine different players notched at least two kills with Kayla Lofland and Haley Rodriguez delivering four apiece
  • Mia Moreno put up three kills with 15 assists and four aces
  • Brooke Byer registered three kills and seven digs

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sixto paced the Monks with five kills
  • Holden added 13 assists and two kills
  • Webster notched four kills and seven digs
  • Briones chipped in with seven digs, two kills and a pair of service aces 

LEADERS – WHITMAN:

  • Christina Boxberger posted a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs
  • Nicole Kelly added 10 kills, four total blocks, and seven digs
  • Kenzie Martinez contributed 10 kills
  • Teia Magaoay dealt 30 assists with six digs

The Monks conclude the First Responder's Tournament on Saturday with matches versus Mary Hardin-Baylor (11:00 AM EST) and St. Thomas (5:00 PM EST).
