NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 13, 2016 – After dropping the first set, the Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team won the next three to earn a 3-1 victory over Regis College on Tuesday evening. The Chargers won by scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-15.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-6 and will host Rivier on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Regis dips to 0-5 and will host the University of New England on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Pride hit .250 and had 11 kills to take a 1-0 lead after the first set. Colby-Sawyer kept it close at 17-15, but Regis pulled away to secure the 25-17 win.
Colby-Sawyer was looking to even the match in the second and held a 19-13 lead, but saw Regis battle back and eventually take a 22-21 advantage. The Chargers responded with a run of their own and were able to close out the set on a pair of kills from freshman
Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.) to even the match at 1-1.
The Chargers trailed 22-17 in the third set but rattled off eight straight points, capped by a
Jaia Woodland (Charlottesville, Va.) kill, to take a 2-1 lead.
Colby-Sawyer closed the match with an impressive offensive display in the fourth set. The team hit .367 and had 12 kills with only one error.
Chargers senior
Gabrielle Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) led all players with 13 kills. Freshman
Micaela Cardozo (Woodbridge, Conn.) recorded a double-double of 10 kills and 16 digs. Freshman setter
Olivia Goodrich (Epping, N.H.) collected a season best 37 assists. Freshman
Caroline McCoy (Longmeadow, Mass.) added a team best 18 digs. Cox finished with seven kills on .312 hitting and three blocks.
Regis received nine kills from freshman Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) and junior Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.). Junior setter Crystina Lathrop (Houston, Texas) had a double-double of 17 assists and 14 digs.
