NEW LONDON, N.H. - September 9, 2014 - The Springfield College volleyball team earned the top spot in the first NEWVA poll of 2014.
The #1 Pride (4-0) opened the 2014 with four straight wins at their home tournament. SC earned three 3-0 sweeps (Johnson and Wales University, #11 Rivier University and Amherst College) as well as a 5-set win over Amherst.
#2 Bowdoin College (4-0) opened with four wins at the Endicott Invitational. The Polar Bears bested Plymouth State (3-0), #8 Roger Williams (3-0), NYU (3-2) and host Endicott (3-1).
#3 Williams College (2-0) earned a pair of 3-0 wins at the Bradeis Invitational. The Ephs swept past Wellesley College and #9 US Coast Guard Academy.
#4 Western Connecticut State University (8-0) enters 2014 with eight straight wins. The Colonials highlight their opening success with a pair of 5-set wins over #10 Western New England University and #11 Rivier University.
#5 MIT (7-1) posted four victories in the New England region and earned a 3-1 record against New York region teams.
