NEWVA Regional Poll Final - Week Ending November 15, 2015 - New England Women's Volleyball Association

BEVERLY, Mass. - November 19, 2015 - Bowdoin captures the 2015 NCAA New England Region Championship and claims the top spot in the final NEWVA Regional Rankings heading into their NCAA Quarterfinal match.

NEWVA Regional Poll FINAL

1. Bowdoin (26-4 overall, 25-4 in-region), 88 points, five first place votes

Bowdoin will represent New England after capturing the NCAA Regional Championship with a 3-1 win over MIT. The Polar Bears battled through Bates, Middlebury, and Williams to win the NESCAC automatic bid and proceeded to roll through UMass Boston, Babson, and MIT to advance into the NCAA Quarterfinals. Bowdoin and NEWVA Player of the Year Christy Jewett face Cal Lutheran in their first-ever NCAA Quarterfinal appearance on Thursday, November 19th at 5:30 PM.

2. MIT (30-4 overall, 23-3 in-region), 82 points, one first place vote

MIT's historic 2015 season came to a close in the NCAA New England Regional Final where the Engineers lost in four sets to Bowdoin. MIT came up short in the NEWMAC Tournament with a semifinal loss to Babson but earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Regional where they swept Regis and grinded out a 23-25, 25-12, 20-25, 25-16, 15-9 triumph over Amherst to reach the finals. MIT recorded their fifth, 30-plus win season under NEWVA Coach of the Year Paul Dill.

3. Springfield (31-4 overall, 23-3 in-region), 81 points

Despite being ousted in the NEWMAC Semifinals with a 3-1 loss to Clark, Springfield earned their sixth straight berth into the NCAA Tournament and were shipped to the New York region. The Pride took down Mt. St. Vincent and The College at Brockport in straight sets but came up short in the NCAA Regional Championship match with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Clarkson.

4. Amherst (23-5 overall, 22-5 in-region), 69 points

Amherst competed in a pair of five-set thrillers, one in the NESCAC Semifinals and the other in the NCAA New England Second Round, but came out on the losing end of both contests. In a 2:20-long conference semifinal match against Williams, Amherst were edged 17-15 in the deciding fifth set but still earned an at-large bid into the regional tournament. Their 2015 run ended with another five-set loss, this time to MIT.

5. Babson (28-9 overall, 26-7 in-region), 68 points

Babson won back-to-back NEWMAC Championships and set a new program record for wins with their 28th victory in a NCAA New England Regional first round win over Roger Williams. The Beavers were eliminated from the NCAA Regional Tournament in the second round by Amherst, losing 3-1.
