Tufts Climbs to No. 1 in Third NEWVA Poll

BEVERLY, Mass. - September 24, 2019 - For the second straight week, there is a new team atop the NEWVA Coaches Poll as Tufts has taken sole possession of first place. The Jumbos make the jump from fourth to first after knocking off previous number one Wesleyan 3-1 on the road this weekend. Tufts received four first place votes, as did Johnson & Wales (R.I.), but the Jumbos held the slight edge in total points (127 to 125).

The fourth NEWVA regional poll will be released on Tuesday, October 1.

The Jumbos are currently 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in NESCAC play after knocking off previous No. 1 Wesleyan and Conn. College this past weekend. The Jumbos host Bowdoin this Friday.

2. No. 4 (AVCA) Johnson & Wales (R.I.) (8-1, 0-0 GNAC) | 125 points | 4 first place votes

The No. 4 team in the most recent AVCA DIII Coaches Poll, the Wildcats extended their win-streaks to seven, knocking off Springfield 3-1, Stevens 3-1 and Roger Williams 3-0. JWU hosts MIT on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.

3. No. 21 Babson (11-0, 2-0 NEWMAC) | 120 points | 1 first place vote

The No. 21 ranked team in the country, the Babson Beavers remained perfect in 2019, going 4-0 on the week with wins over WPI, Simmons, Clark and Kean. Babson travels to Emerson on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.

4. No. 15 Wesleyan (Conn.) (7-1, 1-1 NESCAC) | 113

The No. 15 team in the country in the most recent AVCA Poll, the Cardinals went 1-1 this week, defeating Bowdoin 3-0 before losing to Tufts 3-1 at home. Wesleyan hosts Conn. College on Thursday at 6:00 PM.

5. Endicott (9-4, 0-0 CCC) | 95 points

The Gulls jumped back into the top five by going 3-0 on the week with wins over Wheaton (Mass.), Amherst and Colby. The Gulls travel to Nichols on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
