Tufts Remains the Unanimous No. 1 in Week Five Poll

BEVERLY, Mass. - October 9, 2019 - After a 2-0 week that has extended their win streak to 14 straight, the Tufts Jumbos remain atop the NEWVA Coaches Poll for the third week in a row. A unanimous choice for the second straight week, the Jumbos earned all 195 points in the NEWVA poll as they have climbed into a tie for 14th in the AVCA DIII Coaches Poll

The sixth NEWVA regional poll will be released on Tuesday, October 15.

Currently tied with Juniata for 14th in the country in the most recent AVCA poll, the Jumbos went 2-0 on the week, sweeping both Hamilton and NEWVA No. 15 Williams to remain perfect at 14-0. Tufts travels to Clark and Trinity this Friday and Saturday.

2. No. 24 Wesleyan (Conn.) (12-2, 4-1 NESCAC) | 180 points

The No. 24 team in the country in the most recent AVCA poll, the Cardinals went 2-0 this week, sweeping Colby and defeating Bates 3-1. Wesleyan has three matches this week, starting with NEWVA No. 13 Keene St. on Thursday, No. 12 Middlebury on Friday, and No. 8 Amherst on Saturday. 

3. No. 23 Babson (17-1, 5-1 NEWMAC) | 164 points

The No. 23 ranked team in the country in the most recent AVCA poll, the Beavers went 2-0 on the week with sweeps of NEWVA No. 9 Coast Guard and non-conference foe Vassar. Babson started this week with a 3-1 win over NEWVA No. 7 MIT and plays host to Brandeis and NEWVA No. 5 Endicott on Saturday. 

4. No. 17 (AVCA) Johnson & Wales (R.I.) (14-3, 4-0 GNAC) | 161 points 

The No. 17 ranked team in the country in the most recent AVCA poll, the Wildcats went 3-0 on the week, posting victories over Simmons (3-0), NEWVA No. 5 Endicott (3-1), and St. Joseph (Conn.) (3-0). JWU travels to Suffolk on Wednesday. 

5. Endicott (13-5, 3-0 CCC) | 139 points

The Gulls maintained their place in the top five after going 1-1 on the week. The Gulls started by falling to No. 17 nationally ranked JWU 3-1 before sweeping NEWVA No. 12 Middlebury 3-0. Endicott started this week by sweeping Salve Regina and will now travel to Babson for a tri-match with Brandeis on Saturday.
