Determined to kick off the 2019 campaign with a bang, Gordon College Volleyball followed last night's season-opening 3-0 sweep over MCLA with another blanking today, cruising to a 3-0 win over SUNY Potsdam in front of a home crowd at the Bennett Athletic Center.
The Fighting Scots then closed out the Gordon Invitational against a tough squad from MIT, ceding the match in three to finish the weekend at 2-1 overall.
The Scots are back in action at home on Wednesday, September 4 as they welcome non-conference WPI for a 7 p.m. start.
How It Happened- Potsdam
- Though each game was contested, the Fighting Scots closed out the match quickly behind identical 25-19 results in the first and second and a 25-20 win in the final frame.
- Gordon's Amanda Snyder, Jacque Fitzgerald, and Jamie Tafoya recorded nine, eight, and six kills, respectively, while Ashlyn Gergins booked 33 assists and Hayley Robinson paced the Scots with 12 digs.
How It Happened- MIT
- MIT booked matching 25-11 wins in the first and third games and a 25-16 result in the middle frame for the sweep victory.
- Despite concerted effort from the Scots to keep the games tight and within striking distance, MIT used a series of runs in each of the three frames to keep the Scots just enough out of reach of a comeback.
- MIT was led by Alexis Groark (Sr./Elwood, N.Y.) with 10 kills, Emily Condon (Jr./Orange, Calif.) with 6.0 blocks, and Andie Maloney (Jr./Manhattan Beach, Calif.) with 27 assists.
