Volleyball drops heart breaker in five sets to Rams 3-2

North Adams, MA- The visiting Framingham State Volleyball team received a match high 15 kills from Brandee Thomas and 42 assists from Morgan Failla as the Rams held off the MCLA Trailblazers in five sets in a key MASCAC matchup in the Amsler Campus Center Gym.  The Rams improve 13-9 overall, but more importantly advance to 3-1 in the conference.  The Trailblazers fall to 13-8 overall and are now 2-2 in league play.

The win marked the 300th career victory for head coach Richard Casali.

MCLA took the opening set as it was tight all the way.  The home team eventually would go up 1-0 due to the 25-23 set win.  The Rams wouldn't back down though as they took the next two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-14.  

MCLA forced a fifth and deciding set by taking the fourth 25-14.

In the fifth set, MCLA was down just 7-6 following a Reagan Scattergood kill, but Framingham would take the next three points to seize control of the set.  A service error started the spurt followed by a Thomas kill and an ace from Deirdre Fay made it 10-6 in favor of the Rams.  Another ace from Fay and an error from Scattergood increased the lead to 12-6.  MCLA would cut it to 12-9, but the Rams would take the final three points, the final one coming on a Hailey Sanders kill to close out the Trailblazers.

Thomas was outstanding collecting her 15 kills on 63 attacks.  Sanders ended with 9 kills for the Rams.  Failla was outstanding setting up the offense all night long.  She added 10 digs in the win.  Alyssa Cafarelli led the team in digs with 28.  Brenna Marquis ended with 19 digs while Fay added 16 more.

For MCLA, Scattergood led the team with 13 kills on just 28 total attacks.  Kelly Moczulski ended with 8 kills and 8 digs for MCLA.  Tessa Sestito had a team best 37 assists and 12 digs.  Natasha Stewart ended with 31 digs in defeat.

The Trailblazers and Rams combined for 60 attack errors.

MCLA will host Salem State in a tri match on Saturday with St. Joseph (CT).  Framingham will host Fitchburg State and Curry in their own tri match on Saturday.
