Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team won a thrilling five-set match versus University of New England 3-2 (25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 15-7) in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks have won 11 in a row over the Nor'easters and lead the all-time series 12-7.

Senior Moment
The Seahawks honored their two seniors, Annie Donahue and Victoria Schwendeman, with a special ceremony pre-game ceremony. Both were joined by family and friends on the court before the match to honor their four seasons in a Seahawks uniform.

Three Stars of the Match

  1. Salve Regina sophomore Nicole Karabaich (Greenlawn, N.Y.) totaled 14 kills, a match-high 25 digs, and four service aces.
  2. UNE senior Katie Flynn (Merrimack, N.H.) had a match-high 15 kills with 14 digs and a service ace.
  3. Salve Regina senior Annie Donahue (Chelmsford, Mass.) posted 13 kills on a match-best .520 clip and committed zero errors.

Turning Point
The trailed in every set of the match, but the Seahawks were able to make runs to secure wins in the first and second sets. In the third and fourth they were not able to overcome the early deficits and were forced into a deciding fifth set. In the fifth the Seahawks dropped the first point but answered with a 6-1 run. A service error gave the Nor'easters a point back, but three straight UNE errors forced a timeout from the visitors. After the timeout a kill from Madison Lee (Dover, Fla.) and another UNE error gave the Seahawks an 11-3 advantage. Three straight kills, the last two from Paige Simoneau (Hudson, N.H.) forced the Seahawks to call for time. After regrouping the Seahawks closed the match on a 4-1 run, capped by a service ace from Madison Lee to seal the five-set victory for the Seahawks.

Quick Hits

  • The Seahawks had four players in double-digit kills; Karabaich (14), Donahue (13), Lee (12), and Andee Bender (Lebanon, Conn.) (12).
  • Flynn (15), and Stephanie Erickson (Cumberland, R.I.) (13) were the only to post double-digit kills for the Nor'easters.
  • Salve Regina had 10 blocks in the match, led by Meaghan Corkery (Saunderstown, R.I.) who notched four blocks in just two sets of action.
  • Meredith Arancio (Oradell, N.J.) paced the Seahawks offense with 30 assists, while fellow junior Olivia Noonan (Rochester, N.H.) added 17 helpers.
  • Sydney Christiansen (Palatine, Ill.) had a match-high 45 assists to go with 16 digs for the Nor'easters.
  • UNE had five players with double-digit digs led by senior libero Katie Marsh (Melbourne, Australia) who collected 20.
