Volleyball Keeps Conference Mark Unblemished with Five-Set Comeback over Lasell; Sweeps Clark

BOSTON – Simmons volleyball (15-7, 10-0 GNAC) remains perfect atop the conference standings after sweeping Saturday afternoon's tri-match against Lasell University (19-3, 8-2 GNAC) and non-conference Clark University (13-10). 

MATCH 1: Simmons 3, Lasell 2
In a pivotal conference match between the two teams atop the standings, the Sharks came out victorious in a thrilling, 3-2, come-from-behind victory in their first match of the day. Facing an 0-2 hole, the Sharks kept the match alive winning the third set, 25-18. 

Their third set win was a monumental match-shifter. The Sharks evened the contest, edging out the Lasers, 25-21 in the fourth set to force a deciding game five. The fifth and final set belonged to the Sharks. Hitting an outstanding .333 as a team, Simmons claimed the set and the victory with a 15-12 win.  

Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons registered her fourth double-double of the season, tallying 11 kills to go along with 26 assists and 14 digs. Senior Claire Conners led the way with 20 kills, while fellow senior Jayla Parnell followed up with 10 kills. In addition to tallying 15 assists, senior Kat Simeonidis as crucial for the Sharks along the service line, notching five. 

MATCH 2: Simmons, 3 Clark 0
In their second match of the day the Sharks made quick work of non-conference Clark University, sweeping the Cougars, 3-0. First-year outside hitter Hannah Pridgeon led the charge for the Sharks, tallying nine kills to go along with 15 digs.

Chelsea Simmons followed up with seven kills, while also adding three service aces and helping to guide the offense with 18 assists along with Simeonidis, who recorded 13 assists and three aces. 

Late in the match against the Cougars, sophomore Alex Spencer was force at the net. In the third set against Clark, Spencer tallied three total blocks, while fellow sophomore Iliana Diaz added another two.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior setter Kat Simeonidis notched eight service aces – including five in the first match of the day against Lasell University.
  • Senior outside hitter Claire Conners led the Sharks offense with 26 kills on the afternoon.
  • Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons tallied 18 kills, while posting a total of seven blocks between the two matches.
  • First-year Hannah Pridgeon also tallied 18 kills – nine against both individual matches against Lasell and Clark
  • Sophomore Alex Spencer tallied three kills and three total blocks – two assisted, one solo against Clark late in the match.
