Volleyball Remains Perfect in GNAC Play with a Sweep of Colby-Sawyer, Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – Simmons volleyball (18-7, 12-0 GNAC) swept a rare Friday evening Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match against Colby-Sawyer College (5-21, 3-9 GNAC), 3-0, and Anna Maria College (3-22, 0-11 GNAC), 3-1.

MATCH 1: Simmons 3, Colby-Sawyer 0

The Sharks started the night with a clean sweep of the Chargers in three sets. Senior outside hitter Claire Conners was nearly flawless from the floor, posting a .609 attack percentage, tallying 15 kills on 23 attempts with just one error, while going up for a pair of solo blocks. Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons paced the offense with 18 assists as first-year libero Carolina Rodriguez tallied 11 digs en route to their 12th victory of the season.

MATCH 2: Simmons 3, Anna Maria 1

Simmons' offensive momentum rolled into their second match of the night. Hitting .381 as a team, the Sharks took the 1-0 match advantage winning the first set, 25-16. The Amcats were able to even the match at 1-1, utilizing a late 4-0 run to take the second set, 25-23.

However, the Sharks responded and went back on top with the 25-13 win in the third set, before sealing the match with a 25-10 win in the fourth set. For the second straight game, Conners led the offense, hitting .448 with 17 kills on 29 attempts, while senior Kat Simeondis paced the offense with 19 assists. Sophomore middle blocker Alex Spencer came up big defensively with three solo blocks.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior outside hitter Claire Conners posted a .519 attack percentage with 32 kills on 52 attempts and just five errors in two matches.
  • First-year outside hitter Hannah Pridgeon eclipsed her career single-game best in aces with six against Anna Maria College and finished the night with 10 in two matches.
  • Senior setter Kat Simeonidis paced the offense with 25 assists in two matches.
