NEWVA Poll #2

NEW LONDON, N.H. - September 17, 2014 - Bowdoin College earns the top spot in the NEWVA poll released Wednesday morning.

#1 Bowdoin College (8-1 overall, 4-0 in-region) went 4-1 on the week including a five-set win over nationally ranked #21 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Polar Bears earned three other wins over University of New England (3-0), Birmingham-Southern (3-1) and Transylvania (3-1). Bowdoin's only setback came in a 3-1 loss to nationally ranked #2 Emory.

#2 University of Massachusetts-Boston (9-3 overall, 4-0 in-region) went 4-0 on the week. The Beacons' weekend was highlighted with a five-set win over NEWVA ranked #3 Williams College. UMass also earned three additional wins against Middlebury College (3-0), Salisbury (3-0) and Whitman (3-0).

#3 Williams College (6-1 overall, 3-1 in-region) went 4-1 on the week. The Ephs began the week with a 3-1 win over Vassar and went on to post a 3-1 record at the UMass Boston tournament including a 3-0 victory over NEWVA ranked #7 Western Connecticut State University.

#4 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (11-1 overall, 10-0 in-region) posted a 4-0 record at the MIT Invitational. The Engineers earned four 3-0 sweeps of Emmanuel College, Connecticut College, Bates College and NEWVA ranked #8 Endicott College.

#5 Springfield College (6-2 overall, 6-1 in-region) posted a 2-2 record at the MIT Invitational. The Pride earned a four-set win over Connecticut College and a five-set win over Tufts University. The two setbacks on the weekend came versus NEWVA ranked #8 Endicott College and  DeSales.
