NEWVA Regional Poll #3 - Week Ending September 27, 2015

BEVERLY, Mass. - The top five remained entact from week two to week three with MIT remaining atop the NEWVA Regional Poll The Engineers went 4-0 last week with NEWMAC victories over Mount Holyoke and Smith.

1. MIT (14-1 overall, 10-0 in-region), 89 points, five first place votes

MIT remained the top team in the NEWVA Regional Poll after sweeping through Mount Holyoke, Simmons, Smith, and Regis. The Engineers dropped only one set on the week. After defeating Clark in four sets Tuesday night, MIT takes on Wheaton and Framingham State in a Saturday trimatch.

2. Amherst (9-1 overall, 9-1 in-region), 82 points, one first place votes

Amherst faced off against three NEWVA-ranked teams last week and went 2-1, falling to Williams in four sets before taking both Clark and Babson last Saturday. Another matchup with a regionally-ranked Colby squad looms on Friday before Bates on Saturday in back-to-back NESCAC contests.

3. Tufts (7-3 overall, 6-1 in-region), 78 points

Tufts went 3-0 in straight-set wins over Connecticut College, Western Connecticut State, and UMass Dartmouth. The Jumbos stick to the #3 ranking in the NEWVA Regional Poll and will look to improve their standing next week with matches against UMass Boston, Bowdoin, and Keene State.

4. Springfield (12-2 overall, 11-2 in-region), 74 points

Springfield matched up with three NEWMAC opponents and went unbeaten as they handed Babson, Smith, and Emerson straight-set losses. A Tuesday night win over Wheaton made it four straight conference wins but the Pride take on a challenging docket at the Kean Invitational this weekend in New Jersey.

5. Williams (7-5 overall, 3-1 in-region), 65 points

Williams faced a gauntlet of talented teams last week starting with a 3-1 triumph over Amherst. The Ephs went out to Wisconsin-Whitewater and went 3-1 in an invitational, beating Wisconsin-Stout before losing to the host Raiders as well as Carthage and Millikin. Williams beat Union (N.Y.) on Tuesday night and faces Bates and Colby this weekend.
