NEWVA Regional Poll #6 - Week Ending October 20, 2015

BEVERLY, Mass. - October 20, 2015 - The sixth NEWVA Regional Poll saw a small shakeup in the top five as Bowdoin crept into the #4 position, bumping Williams down to #5, and knocking Tufts into sixth place. With Babson surpassing Roger Williams into the top-10, the NEWMAC and NESCAC own every single top-10 slot.

1. MIT (23-1 overall, 17-0 in-region), 105 points, seven first place votes

Now up to #23 in the most recent AVCA Top-25 poll, MIT add four more wins to their season-high, 18-match win streak by beating Mount Ida in a midweek tilt followed by victories over St. Lawrence, Western New Eng., and SUNY New Paltz at the MIT Quad Tournament. The Engineers face a daunting schedule this week as they face the #5 (Williams), #6 (Tufts), #8 (Middlebury), and #10 (Babson) ranked teams in the NEWVA poll.

2. Springfield (22-2 overall, 17-2 in-region), 94 points

Springfield remained #2 in the NEWVA Regional Poll as they played one match, a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke as the Pride have now won 13 in-a-row. A weeday match with WPI, ranked 14th in the NEWVA poll, and three NESCAC matches against Hamilton, Trinity (Conn.), and Wesleyan (Conn.) at the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational are on the docket this week.

3. Amherst (16-2 overall, 16-2 in-region), 92 points

Amherst impressed this week with triumphs over Colby Sawyer (3-0), NEWVA #4 Bowdoin (3-2), and UMass Boston (3-1) to stay in the #3 position. The Lord Jeffs will also be at the Hall of Fame Invitational this weekend and will take on Vassar, Brandeis, and Bridgewater St.

4. Bowdoin (13-4 overall, 13-4 in-region), 81 points

Bowdoin cracks the top-five after jumping two spots from the #6 position in the NEWVA Regional Poll. The Polar Bears lost to #3 Amherst in five sets but turned around and beat last week's #4 Williams 3-2 to leap over the Ephs. Bowdoin looks to keep it going this week at the UMass Boston Invitational where they take on #9 Clark, #11 Roger Williams, UMass Boston, and Augsburg.

5. Williams (14-6 overall, 7-2 in-region), 78 points

The Ephs went 1-1 last week with a win over UMass Boston and a loss to new #4 Bowdoin in five sets. Williams has a tough schedule ahead with #10 Babson and a tri-match with Wellesley and New England's #1 team MIT.
