NEWVA Regional Poll #8 - Week Ending November 1, 2015

BEVERLY, Mass. - November 3, 2015 - MIT, as they have been for the past six weeks, will enter the 2015 NEWMAC Tournament as the top-ranked team in the NEWVA poll.

1. MIT (28-2 overall, 19-1 in-region), 90 points, six first place votes

MIT easily swept through Emerson and Coast Guard to close out the 2015 regular season to remain top dog in the NEWVA heading into postseason play. The Engineers are the only team in the NEWMAC Tournament to receive a first round bye and will host the winner of Babson-Coast Guard on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

2. Springfield (28-2 overall, 23-2 in-region), 84 points

Springfield scored a critical win over NEWVA's third-ranked Amherst on four sets and a postseason-bound Wellesley squad in the last week of the regular season. The Engineers will host WPI in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals and hope to leave MIT with a conference title and automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

3. Amherst (21-3 overall, 20-3 in-region), 76 points

A non-conference loss to Springfield was the only blemish in a 2-1 week before NESCAC Quarterfinal action begins on Friday against Connecticut College. The Lord Jeffs took down Trinity (Conn.) and Wesleyan (Conn.) in straight sets in their last two matches of the regular season. Amherst will be the #3 seed in the NESCAC Tournament.

4. Bowdoin (20-4 overall, 19-4 in-region), 73 points

Bowdoin went 3-0 last week, beating Colby and Bates in conference matches, before sweeping Husson in their final match. Bowdoin has earned the top spot in the NESCAC Tournament seeding and will host Bates in the opening round on Friday.

5. Williams (16-9 overall, 9-5 in-region), 62 points

Williams is back in the NEWVA top-five before playoffs begin after defeating Wesleyan (Conn.) and Trinity (Conn.) last week. The Ephs are the #2 seed in the NESCAC Tournament and will face #7 Colby in the quarterfinal round. All matches in the NESCAC postseason bracket will take place at Bowdoin.
