Tufts Unanimous No. 1 in Week Four NEWVA Poll

BEVERLY, Mass. - October 1, 2019 - For the second straight week, Tufts University sits atop the NEWVA Coaches Poll as they improved to 12-0 on the week. The Jumbos were the unanimous top chocie for the 10 voting coaches, earning all 150 possible points.

The fifth NEWVA regional poll will be released on Tuesday, October 8.

1. No. 17 Tufts (12-0, 3-0 NESCAC) | 150 points | 10 first place votes

The No. 17 ranked team in the country, the Jumbos are the unanimous top team in week four after a 3-0 week, all via a 3-0 sweep. Included in the 3-0 week were wins over Bowdoin and JWU. Tufts plays host to Hamilton and Williams this Friday and Saturday.

2. No. 25 Wesleyan (Conn.) (10-2, 2-1 NESCAC) | 133 points

The No. 25 team in the country in the most recent AVCA Poll, the Cardinals went 3-1 this week, defeating Connecticut College, Hunter and Stevens in 3-0 sweeps, while falling to Susquehanna 3-0. Wesleyan travels to Colby and Bates this Friday and Saturday.

3. No. 24 Babson (14-1, 3-1 NEWMAC) | 124 points

The No. 24 ranked team in the country, the Babson Beavers went 3-1 on the week with sweeps of UMass Dartmouth, Smith and Keene State, and a 3-1 loss to Emerson. Babson travels to Emerson on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.

4. No. 15 (AVCA) Johnson & Wales (R.I.) (11-3, 2-0 GNAC) | 117 points 

The No. 15 team in the most recent AVCA DIII Coaches Poll, the Wildcats went 3-2 on the week, with sweeps of MIT, Anna Maria and Emmanuel. The losses came Bowdoin (3-1) and Tufts (3-0). JWU hosts Simmons on Wednesday and travels to NEWVA #5 Endicott on Thursday.

 

 

5. Endicott (11-4, 2-0 CCC) | 113 points

The Gulls maintained their place in the top five after going 2-0 on the week. The two wins came over Nichols (3-0) and Roger Williams (3-1). Endicott plays host to NEWVA #4 Johnson & Wales on Thursday.
