MIT Unanimous Top Team in Fifth Poll Heading Into Final Week of Regular Season

BEVERLY, Mass. - October 26, 2021 -  Despite the team's first in-region setback to Williams (3-1) on Saturday, the Engineer of MIT, still No. 19 in the most recent AVCA DIII poll, have retained top spot in the fifth NEWVA Coaches Poll of 2021.

1. No. 19 (AVCA) MIT (22-2, 7-0 NEWMAC) | 150 points | 9 first place votes

The top-ranked team in every NEWVA poll of 2021, the Engineers competed in the New England Challenge, where they suffered their first in-region loss of the season, falling to NEWVA No. 9 Williams 3-1, after defeating NEWVA No. 5 Middlebury 3-1. 

2. No. 22 (AVCA) Tufts (15-4, 5-1 NESCAC) | 137 points | 1 first place vote 

The Jumbos moved up to No. 22 in the most recent AVCA poll.

3. Wesleyan (14-5, 7-2 NESCAC) | 125 points

The Cardinal went 0-3 against out-of-region competition last week, falling to AVCA No. 10 Juniata 3-0, Carnegie Mellon 3-2, and York (PA) 3-1.

 

4. Bowdoin (17-4, 7-1 NESCAC) | 106 points

The Polar Bears went 3-0 on the week, claiming a 3-0 sweep of Brandeis before knocking off NEWVA No. 14 Emerson 3-2, and Manhattanville 3-2, in non-conference play.

5. Middlebury (18-4, 5-3 NESCAC) | 100 points

The Panthers went 3-1 on the week, which started with a 3-0 sweep of NEWVA No. 12 Plymouth State. Middlebury then competed in the New England Challenge in which they swept NEWVA No. 10 Springfield 3-0, before falling to AVCA No. 19/NEWVA No. 1 MIT 3-1. Middlebury wrapped up the weekend by taking down NEWVA No. 7 Babson 3-2.
